Anyone that has wanted to play guitar since 1986 has had the same dream. The top-hat and black mane of hair and sunglasses. The image known 'round the world as Slash.
Slash was born July 23 1965 under the given name of Saul Hudson. Realizing that he wanted to be a musician by the age of fourteen, Slash decided that he wanted to play bass. His music teacher at the time, Robert Wolin, convinced the then teenager that guitar was his true calling.
Thank You Robert!
Learning to play guitar and starting up band projects was just the beginning for the young Slash. Kicking around with then buddy and bandmember Steven Adler, Slash went on to form various projects with Steven and Duff McKagan. They eventually tied into a joint project alongside Izzy Stradlin and Axl Rose to form one of the most influencial and powerful rock bands in Rock N' Roll histroy: Guns N' Roses! The band went on to sell over 28 million copies of their debut record label release "Appetite for Destruction".
After 5 albums the original G N' R lineup finally disbanded over the course of a few years and members mostly went their separate ways until Slash, Duff and Matt came back together again after feeling how strong their chemistry together still was at a benefit event for Randy Castillo (famed drummer for a few projects but most notably Ozzy Osbourn) in 2002. So together they had formed the super-group Velvet Revolver. After one crazy announcement performance, 2 albums and 2 tours, Velvet Revolver decided to go their separate ways as well.
Slash is currently working on a long anticipated solo album featuring a variety of special guests from across the map. Of course this is nothing really new. Slash has worked with just about anyone in the music industry from Ozzy Osbourn, Lemmy from Motorhead and Billy Idol to some possibly unexpected performances with Fergie, Lenny Kravits and Michael Jackson!
Being known for the Gibson Les Paul that one would usually see around Slash's neck, their are quite a few more guitars that Slash favors. The most popular of his favorite non-pauls, is the B.C. Rich Mockingbird. Slash is also the main character in the newest installation of the famed video game "Guitar Hero: Legends of Rock". Definitely a suitable choice! Famed forever as the guitarist of legend, from Guns N Roses, Slash's Snakepit and Velvet Revolver to a huge list of various side projects and studio work. Slash will remain a definite guitar hero for a long time!
